Camp Shane runs two specialized camps for overweight children in the Catskill Mountains of New York and in Mayer, Arizona. The objectives of the camp are for the campers to lose weight, learn new skills, gain self-esteem and have fun.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Supervises Fitness Instructors.

Develops, evaluates, and upgrades the gym program, fitness classes, and circuit training classes, aerobic instructors, kick boxing, stretching and exercise classes.

Manages ongoing training of all staff in content, technique and the process by which Fitness services are provided.

Maintains high profile to promote camper interaction; counsels campers and answers their fitness questions as needed.

Designs and develops a balanced program of Fitness activities to meet the diverse needs.

Must help assist other fitness counselors in expanding their fitness knowledge.

The day consists of six activity periods. Each period groups of kids go to each activity. Abilities range considerably and ages are from 8-17, although within each scheduled period the kids are about the same age. Each area has its own instructor. You would work with each of them to make sure they have an effective program ready to run.

You would be spending the majority of your time actually running an activity area and supervise other instructors when time permits. Typically, the other instructors are college students. You need to have knowledge of all these area and feel organized enough insure the programs are fun, varied and safe.
