Camp Shane runs two specialized camps for overweight children in the Catskill Mountains of New York and in Mayer, Arizona. The objectives of the camp are for the campers to lose weight, learn new skills, gain self-esteem and have fun.
COMPUTER ROOM INSTRUCTOR FOR CAMPERS
You would be in charge of the computer room. Its an activity that campers would choose to attend with about twenty campers coming each of six 45 minute periods a day.
Please note that all Counselors live in cabins and eat with campers and are responsible for the cabin behavior, cleanup etc. However, as a specialized staff member, during the daily activity periods, you leave your assigned cabin group to run the computer room. Different age groups, either girls or boys, come to the computer room each of these periods. You are the person in charge, so it is up to you to plan what will be offered each period and to look after the equipment.
We have about 12 PCs running windows xp that are networked and a library of computer programs including Microsoft Office, Macromedia Studio MX to name a few. We have high-speed broadband Internet access.
The content of the classes is totally up to you. You may wish to use certain periods to specific programs. For example, word processing, website building, digital photo enhancement, beginning programming, intro to computers, graphics, etc. You'll find that many of the kids just want use email or to play games and that's acceptable. If you can present other areas in an interesting way then the campers will participate.
You'll need time to set up the PCs, (everything is networked) and familiarize yourself with our software. This is an indoor job, except when the program may be closed due to special events being run. At these times you will accompany the bunk in whatever activity they have scheduled.
Must be at least 25 + years of age. Must have emotional maturity, good moral character and integrity, be flexible and cooperative. Require that you possess strong leadership and organizational skills. You should enjoy a camp environment, be friendly, caring, kind, like children, and be lots of fun!
