Camp Shane runs two specialized camps for overweight children in the Catskill Mountains of New York and in Mayer, Arizona. The objectives of the camp are for the campers to lose weight, learn new skills, gain self-esteem and have fun.
As the Guidance Counselor you will work with campers who are homesick or having adjustment/behavior problems. Follow up on calls received from parents inquiring on the status of their child or indicating problems. This involves investigating, talking to staff, campers and calling the parent back. Run bunk meetings using our lesson plan to foster communication and good feelings among the kids. Help train staff in proper methods of dealing with campers.
Must have completed college. You must have emotional maturity, good moral character and integrity, be flexible and cooperative. Requires strong leadership and organizational skills. You should enjoy a camp environment, be friendly, caring, kind, outgoing, like children, and be lots of fun!
