Residential Registered Nurse for Boston Ballet School’s Summer Dance Program
Boston Ballet School seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as the medical professional for the Summer Dance Program, Boston Ballet’s summer intensive residential dance program. Reporting to the Manager of Summer Dance Programs, and the Residential Director, the SDP Nurse will collaborate with the administrative, residential, and physical therapy staff to attend to the medical needs of the program participants. Participants are male and female students aged 10-15. The student body includes American and international students.
This is a position with significant responsibility. The SDP Nurse will be responsible for providing medical attention and medical consult for Boston Ballet’s Summer Dance Program students. Our Newton location of the Summer Dance Program utilizes a residential facility and a ballet studio, serving approximately 200 students total each year. Tasks will include responding to student medical needs, communicating with parents, administrative staff, and other members of the medical staff, distributing medication, and being flexible, capable, and prompt in handling any medical concerns that arise.
The SDP nurse will live on campus for the duration of this program (June 20-July 27, 2013). The SDP Nurse for our Newton location will live in our Newton residence halls, located on the Lasell College campus in Newton. Salary is competitive and room and board are provided.
Responsibilities:
• Emergency Care: Provide emergency medical attention to ballet students ages 10 through 14
Assess, treat, and triage illness and emergencies. Be on call and able to provide care and/or consults 24 hours per day.
• Medical Communication: Communicate effectively and confidentially with physical therapy staff, off-site doctors, students, parents, residential staff, and administrative staff in matters regarding students’ medical needs.
• Medication Distribution: Keep records of prescription and over-the-counter medications brought to the program by students and dispense them as scheduled and/or needed.
• Health Promotion & Disease Prevention: Manage and execute response to a communicable disease outbreak in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines.
• Office Management: Keep track of student medications, medical records and paperwork, and keep infirmary spaces clean and organized.
• Mobility: Effectively move between and manage tasks at two of the Summer Dance Program’s facilities: the MetroWest studio in Newtonville and the Residence Halls at Lasell College

- Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in Massachusetts or capable of being licensed in Massachusetts

- Ability to respond and support students with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy
- Flexibility, positive attitude, and good work ethic
- Excellent communications skills
- Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team
- Experience working with children and teens in a camp or school setting
