Have you always wanted to work outdoors? We are looking for Construction Horticulturists who can support our Horticulture, Ride & Show, Facilities Maintenance, and other divisions across Universal Orlando with tree maintenance, heavy equipment operation, debris removal.Construction Horticulturists at Universal Orlando are responsible for:
- Operating heavy equipment, bucket trucks, and high reach to prune, move, install, and remove trees.
- Digging, ball and burlap trees.
- Removing and installing plant material.
- Rigging trees for proper lifting and transport.
- Providing correct hand signals for heavy equipment operation and rental cranes to insure safe operation.
- Staking and guying trees according to Universal Orlando’s Horticulture Standards.
- Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policies, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
To perform the role of a Construction Horticulturist successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
- High School degree or GED required. Technical school majoring in horticultural sciences is preferred.
- Three to five years experience in landscape construction including equipment operation is required.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
- Method of Traffic Certification from the Department of Transportation is required.
- Heavy Equipment Operation certification is required.
- Must be familiar with construction sites and willing to follow rules and regulations.
- Must be able to work with on site contractors and accomodate variable shift start times.
- Proficiency in safe operation of all landscape equipment, including 120’ hi-reach, bucket truck, lull, tractor, back-hoe, walk-behind and riding trencher, loader, forklift and all turf renovation equipment.
- Ability to successfully relocate large specimen trees.
- Ability to successfully identify plants by common and botanical names and working knowledge of proper pruning techniques for broad range of plant types.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Construction Horticulturist job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to stand, walk; talk or hear; and reach with hands and arms.
- The individual is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; climb or balance.
- The individual is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.
- The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- The individual must frequently utilize equipment on sloped terrain (ie. digging on sloped terrain).
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Construction Horticulturist job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions.
- The individual is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and vibration.
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently working around water.
- While performing this job, the noise level in the work environment is loud.
