Job Description:

IMPORTANT. WE CAN ONLY EMPLOY AND WILL ONLY REPLY TO EUROPEAN UNION MEMBER PASSPORT HOLDERS. The Roman Oasis Restaurant is an English owned restaurant and was created by the owner 26 years ago. It is an open-air restaurant with a tropical atmosphere serving multi nationalities including many Spanish customers in the peak of the season. See web page at www.romanoasismanilva.com Major airports are Malaga (one hour) and Gibraltar (30 minutes). We open on June 1st. and close on Sept.30th. every year. The season therefore is short and furious and during this time we seat, at capacity, 175 people and serve some 12,000 meals in those four months. Duration of the work is arrival Monday May 26th. Working from Tuesday May 27th. to Friday October 3rd. We need enthusiastic people to join the team for waiting tables, food preparation, bar staff, washing up, clearing tables and general duties. The restaurant is open 7 nights a week. You will be working 6 nights a week for June, July and September and 7 nights a week during the peak month of August. The work day starts at 4.00 p.m for preparation of food, bar, kitchen and restaurant, sweeping, cleaning of toilets etc. Once we open for service at 7.30 p.m. it is seating, greeting, serving food, preparing drinks, meals, desserts, serving coffees, clearing away and washing up. Every night is busy and because in Spain, this entails very late nights. Due to the heat of the summer and the number of covers the work is very hard indeed. An evening meal is prepared by the staff for the staff and taken at 6 P.M. No alcohol is permitted during working hours. Accommodation is provided in air conditioned ‘Portacabins’ (portable buildings that are commonly seen on building sites) in the grounds of the restaurant. These are very basic and consist of two very small rooms each one just big enough for two single beds. In the restaurant you will have the use of a kitchen, fridge and cooking facilities and will provide your own breakfast and lunch. We must stress that we are out in the country and not near any shops or nightlife, there are no buses to the main road and the only transport you will have is a bicycle that we supply for daytime use only and of course your walking power.

Job Requirements:

Every year for the last 8 years we have employed some 12 student staff. We are looking for single individuals, not pairs of friends, or groups. You must be between 18 and 25, your spoken English must be of a good standard and it will be helpful if you have any other languages, especially Spanish. YOU MUST BE A NON SMOKER and will be expected to take pride in your appearance and be positive thinking, outgoing and flexible and enjoy meeting a variety of people from many nations. You must be able to work hard and energetically under pressure, be punctual and diligent and to look forward to a busy night of work within a team of like minded people whose prime interest is for the experience of being and working in Spain. You and your abilities are an unknown quantity and even if you have some experience we will still need to spend our time training you before you are useful to us. This is more of an exchange of services so those whose only interest is in money will be slightly disappointed although you will be paid reasonable remuneration and receive other benefits. You will gain great experience working summer nights in this busy and unique international restaurant and can use your free time to spend on the beach or visiting the sights whilst improving your Spanish amidst the locals and gaining an insight into another culture. At the end you may obtain a good reference from this old established business that will be a valuable addition to your C.V.’s in the future.
