Established in 1953, Indian Trails camp is an American Camping Association accredited organization dedicated to serving individuals with physical and developmental disabilities.
History
In 1952, several concerned parents of children with disabilities organized to evaluate summer recreation possibilities for their children. The parents, guided and supported by the Grand Rapids Public School system, decided that an organized camp solely dedicated to these children would be beneficial. One year later, the City of Grand Rapids granted a permanent, fifteen acre site within Aman Park. That year, 1953, marked the first year Indian Trails Camp for the physically disabled officially operated. Through the tremendous support from the Grand Rapids Rotary Club, a small T-shaped building was erected from timbers cleared from the camp.
For over 50 years, Indian Trails Camp has been committed to offering recreational camping for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. Every year, hundreds of children and adults engage in traditional camp activities that hold no barriers. With a carefully controlled camper to staff ratio, campers are able to achieve the highest of their goals. Whether engaging in spring time hikes, talent shows, canoe trips, archery, creative arts, swimming, dramatics, music, hay rides, dances or celebrating New Years Eve, the activities are numerous and the results are immeasurable.
Job Application Instructions:
Indian Trails Camp hires approximately 80 people each summer to help run the seven week long program. These dedicated individuals make the program possible. In addition, three letters of recommendations must be completed alongside the application. You will promptly be contacted and scheduled for an interview when we receive the necessary paperwork.
