Position Summary
Spend your summer playing games as a Camp Counselor at Keene Family YMCA's Gymnastics Camps! In this seasonal role you will provide supervision for a group of children in grades 1-6, while ensuring a positive, nurturing, and inclusive experience for all. This is a full-time, seasonal position, running from June 17th-August 23rd.

The Gymnastics Program at the Y offers three different camps, each with a different focus. There are options for those who are just beginning in the sport and for more experienced gymnasts interested in advancing their skills.

Essential Functions of the Specialty Camp Counselor

  • Leads energizing, fun, culturally aware and safe camp activities and field trips.
  • Provides direct supervision and instruction to camp participants in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Assists with planning and creating lesson plans.
  • Builds meaningful relationships with campers, families, and camp staff, while exemplifying the Y's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards and abides by the code of conduct.
  • Projects a positive, enthusiastic, and professional image while on the job.





Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, honesty, and respect
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds
  • Desire to work with school-age children
  • Must have basic knowledge of gymnastics
  • Behavior management skills
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and multi-task
  • Experience in one or more of the following is preferred: outdoor living/education, music, theatre arts, swim instruction or lifeguard certification, youth sports, physical education, or creative arts
  • Successful completion of CPR/First Aid/AED Certification and Child Abuse Prevention training prior to camp start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years teaching gymnastics or similar camp/teaching experience
  • 1-2 years working with children ages 1-12
  • Working knowledge of gymnastics equipment and its proper use
  • Ability to lift equipment and spot children
  • Ability to create and follow daily lesson plans
  • Early Childhood Education credits
  • Degree in education, recreation, psychology, social work or equivalent
  • Certification, extensive training, or work experience in DEI
