Job Description Job Description Position Summary: A Mentor is responsible for the supervision of students, promoting and actively participating in all after school activities, providing a safe and fun learning environment, and serving as a positive role model for students. Mentors work up to 26 consecutive weeks from mid-October to early-May. Program Dates, Times & Locations: October 2024 - May 2025 The Program operates at Mastery Charter Smedley Elementary School located in the Frankford section of Philadelphia three days per week. Mentor hours are 3:00-5:15 pm. Priority to candidates available all 3 days. Mentors are required to commit to at least two afternoons per week. Education Requirements: Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age Must be a High School graduate pursing a college degree Enrolled in or successfully completed an education-related or child-related major/course of study preferred Dream Camp Information Looking to make a difference in a child's life? Essential Job Responsibilities: Supervise a group of 5 students focusing on behavior and group management, safety, security, and personal/skill development Work effectively with co-mentors and collaborate on daily responsibilities Facilitate and actively participate in all student activities including but not limited to: homework, tutoring, academic skills development, character building, arts enrichment, physical fitness classes, and group projects Complete assigned paperwork Serve as a positive role model to campers Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and adhere to all company policies Have fun Other responsibilities as assigned Experience Requirements: Prior experience working with children in a group setting, examples include but are not limited to; teaching, coaching, babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, etc. Previous experience working with urban youth Position Competencies for Success: Understand and support the mission of the organization Commit to the growth and development of youth Work effectively with others in all levels of the organization in a professional manner Demonstrate outstanding communication skills; using clear, concise and professional language when interacting with campers, camp families and colleagues Be responsible, reliable and safe Always have a positive, can-do attitude Be patient, caring and creative Produce consistent, high-quality work Demonstrate excellent judgment; identify problems and work quickly to find solutions Be a flexible, adaptive and a team player Desire to make a difference in the life of a child Reporting Relationships: Reports directly to and takes direction from the Program Director and Program Coordinator. Essential Job Functions - Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus Work upright and mobile for two (2) to four (4) hours per day Respond to emergency situations which may include running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion Possess physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions - responsibilities listed above This job description is subject to change at any time.
