Summary Description The HR Generalist will assist the Senior HR Manager with the department’s day-to-day operations, including processing payroll, benefits, and employee leave; file management; interviewing and hiring; orientation/onboarding ; employee engagement and retention; performance management; training and development; planning company events; and ensuring compliance with governmental laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. The HR Generalist will work with the Director of HR and Senior HR Manager to build an HR department that aligns with organizational values and fosters strong partnerships with other departments and vendors. Using an anti-racist and equity lens, the HR Generalist will help design and implement solutions that ensure the organization maintains a culture focused on employee development, engagement, and retention. The schedule is Monday through Friday. This is an in-person position, and work hours are flexible. Essential Functions • Assist with duties and responsibilities essential to HR administration, including processing payroll, benefits, and leave; file management; interviewing and hiring; orientation/onboarding ; employee engagement and retention; performance management; training/development ; planning company events; and compliance with governmental laws and regulations, and company policies and procedures. • Ensure the accuracy of payroll and benefits enrollments/deductions in the HRIS, and provide vendors with accurate enrollment information. Assist with completing payroll/benefits projects and reporting. • Collaborate with the HR Manager and departmental managers to recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job candidates for open positions. Assist with completing background checks and employment eligibility verifications, and assist with implementing new hire orientation. • Update employee files and HRIS for all employee lifecycle processes from recruiting through offboarding, including reviewing, tracking, and documenting compliance with training, continuing education, and certifications. • Handle employment-related inquiries from job candidates, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the HR Manager. • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and best practices; review policies and procedures to maintain compliance. • Maintain knowledge of changes in HR trends, best practices, new technologies, and employment law, and make recommendations to improve HR processes and systems. • Assist in planning monthly and annual staff events. • Perform other duties as assigned. Payroll and Benefits Administration • Process payroll on time and accurately, in compliance with government laws and regulations, and in collaboration with the Finance Department to ensure internal controls are followed. Report any discrepancies to the HR Manager. • Assist with administering employee benefits, including effective staff communication and education, smooth staff enrollment, and updating benefits enrollments and deductions in vendor systems and the HRIS. • Counsel and assist employees on matters relating to benefits enrollments, including making changes to their enrollments. • Help review insurance carrier billings, check for accuracy and appropriate charges, and make necessary updates or changes. • Recommend modifications to existing benefit plans to improve services to employees in a cost-effective manner. Education and Experience • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. • At least two years of human resources experience required, including experience in payroll and benefits, talent acquisition, talent management, talent retention, and compliance. • Experience with ADP Workforce Now HRIS is a plus. Compensation Range: $23 – $25 per hour (depending on experience) Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. • Must be able to lift 15 to 25 pounds at times. • Must be able to access and navigate each department within the organization’s facilities.
