Job Description
The BIC is located at the edge of The Great Salt Pond in Block Island, Rhode Island.
The Director of Sailing is responsible for the management of both adult and children Club offerings, which include a children’s sailing development program, with several levels, and up to 50 weekly participants, as well as various private adult programs, private lessons and charters.
The Club benefits from approximately 2,500 square feet of waterfront located in a designated recreational zone. The boats are launched from its infrastructure of floating docks and 5 dedicated moorings. The Club’s sailing equipment currently includes 35 sailing dinghies and 6 sailing keelboats.
The Director will lead the Club's sailing education and foster a love of the sailing sport in addition to working closely with the General Manager on general Club responsibilities to include;
Director of Sailing Roles
• Working with the junior sailing staff providing expertise and support on the waterfront and teach sailing lessons
• Coordinating daily responsibilities and staffing of sailing resources (6-8 junior instructors)
• Coordinating regattas and weekly races (this is done with the support of the Sailing Committee)
• Ensuring that sailing staff have sufficient materials (e.g. marks, chase boats, sail boats, white boards etc.)
• Providing regular, constructive feedback to sailing staff and mentoring them in their coaching abilities
• Ensuring sailing boats are left in a uniform manner as outlined by the Waterfront Director
Working closely with General Manager in following areas:
• Implementing safety and emergency plans
• Ensuring equipment is maintained at a high standard and reporting any damage
• Delegating specific, sailing-related tasks to sailing staff to ensure boats are maintained to the highest standards
• Creating and fostering a love for the sport of sailing, in all its forms, amongst members of the club
Housing is provided if needed.
Employment runs June - August 2025
Salary: $10,000 (plus housing and additional compensation for lessons and charters)

US Sailing Level 1 Certification Required
