Job Description Job Description Description: Part-time (paid) Summer Internship and Substitute opportunities available in Marquette! Purpose To provide a safe, warm and nurturing environment in which children can grow, physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially. To work effectively with children, parents, and center staff to provide a high-quality program. Key Responsibilities Duties To provide the children with a safe, loving and nurturing environment Use consistent, appropriate child guidance techniques To provide opportunities for children to develop independence To develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the classroom and the center To assist other team members to carry out daily routines and experiences, and maintain a clean and organized environment To communicate observations and information about children’s health, behavior and development to co-workers and parents, as appropriate To communicate effectively with each parent to help them feel at ease at the center Be responsible to complete any assigned duties Regulations Helps to follow and meet licensing, NAEYC, Gretchen’s House regulations and guidelines Initial for receipt of Gretchen’s House New Hire Info Packet, Licensing Handbook, NAEYC guidelines and GH Staff Handbook__________ Philosophy Understands and implements practices that are consistent with Gretchen’s House philosophy as appropriate Provides developmentally appropriate experiences and materials Provides HighScope curriculum and experiences Uses a “process not product” approach Incorporates appropriate cultural experiences and materials Uses a variety of appropriate communication methods with children Takes children outdoors daily Promotes age-appropriate family-style dining Recognizes the unique needs of each child Uses p ositive methods of guidance Partners with parents Supports a team-teaching atmosphere Promotes clean-up and care for the center environment Actively participates in recycling and care for the natural environment Professionalism Follows NAEYC’s ‘Code of Ethical Conduct’ Verbal and written communication is professional Dress and demeanor are professional Works cooperatively with all center staff to maintain a quality program Understands role in the organization as a business Learning/Practicum Outcomes for Intern Gain experience working with young children in an NAEYC accredited program. Practice implementing HighScope Curriculum. Consistently implement conflict resolution strategies with children. Use HighScope’s Key Developmental Indicators in planning activities for children Requirements: At least 18 years of age Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children, co-workers and parents Evidence of emotional maturity and good judgment Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position Personnel file must be complete and up to date Appropriate attendance
