Job Description

The Plumber II is responsible for planning and performing preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing systems. Maintains the inspection backflow preventer and boilers database. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. 2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Plumber III/ Lead and/or Plumbing Supervisor. 3. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of the Plumber II, including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots with slip resistant soles, respirators/masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen. 4. Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPE if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs. 5. Working knowledge of all plumbing systems; ability to install, repair and maintain all types of plumbing systems. 6. Install various types of plumbing fixtures. 7. Follows direction from Master Plumber/ Supervisor. 8. Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. 9. Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. 10. Read blueprints and drawings to determine exact specifications and where plumbing system will be installed. 11. Keep records of assignments and produce detailed work reports. 12. Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels. 13. Coordinate with project manager on installation. 14. Ensure legislation and policies are met and that systems are up to code. 15. Ensure systems meet all standards of building codes and safety. 16. Cut openings in structures in preparation for pipes. 17. Select all materials needed for installation, including type and size of pipe. 18. Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment. 19. Assemble and install valves and fittings. 20. Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. 21. Installs other plumbing equipment, such as sinks, tubs, toilets, water heaters, air conditioners, appliances, and trim under Supervision. 22. Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle. 23. Observe pressure gauges to fix leaks. 24. Test pipe systems and fix leaks. 25. Repair and maintain water treatment equipment. 26. Perform scheduled maintenance. 27. Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported and grade. 28. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks. 29. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission. Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies This position requires a high school degree or GED. Minimum 3 years of plumbing experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Valid State Driver's license, acceptable DMV record, and proof of liability insurance is required. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Clean and professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented. self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift-up to 75 pounds and perform duties of the Plumbing trade in typical Virginia Climate. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours.
