Job Description Job Description Title: Youth Director Employee: Currently Vacant Classification: Non-Exempt Pay Scale/Rate: $21-$25 per hour for 30 hours per week; pay checks issued bi-weekly Leave Time: Vacation – 60 hours per year as of January 1; prorated if hired after @ an appropriate percentage based on the date of hire Sick – as per employee handbook Compensatory Time – can be earned as follows, with Lead Pastor’s approval Hour per hour for those worked above 40 hours 8 hours per day for overnight trips: If assigned to workshops or seminars Taking kids to overnight trips, lock-ins, or the like Accountability: Reports directly to the Lead Pastor and secondarily to the SPRC Committee. Qualifications: 1. Must exhibit deep spiritual maturity and lifestyle consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ. 2. Prefer a minimum of a bachelor's degree and/or 3 years youth ministry related experience. 3. Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills and appropriate use of social media 4. Must be comfortable discussing challenging theological and life situation topics, as such discussions may occur 5. Must work well as part of a staff team; coordinate volunteers; delegate, empower, and hold youth accountable 6. Proficiency using current technology as a means of communication and organizational planning. 7. CPR and First Aid training required must remain current, renewal costs reimbursed by the church. 8. Must pass a criminal background check 9. Completion of Rio Texas Safe Gatherings within 30 days of employment. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Responsibilities: 1. Lead a program that nurtures relationships between youth, church community, and Christ. 2. Guide 6th - 12th grade students in faith and mentor them as they continue their growth with God and one another. 3. Help youth explore and develop their God­ given gifts and talents as leaders, servants, disciples, and friends. 4. Promote a safe, inviting, Christian environment where youth can live, work, grow, learn, and love. 5. Plan, coordinate, and implement Youth Ministry activities that provide impactful, engaging, and meaningful opportunities for youth as they grow in Christ, including weekly Sunday School, and an additional weekly fellowship time, a Youth Activity once per month, and other gatherings, such as summer camps, mission outreach, special events, and other such programs. 6. Create opportunities for youth to participate in and lead meaningful worship experiences. 7. Attend youth retreats, lock-ins, and mission projects as leader/ mentor/consultant. 8. Meet in person, as able, with youth and parent and adult volunteers to discern individual needs to improve Christian growth and development opportunities. 9. Reach out to youth where they are, at home, at school, and in the community. 10. Brainstorm with youth council each quarter to develop a unique vision for youth ministry and work together to plan and implement ideas and programs that work toward spiritual and numerical growth of the group. 11. Recruit and train adult leadership for youth ministry. 12. Collaborate and communicate regularly with the Lead Pastor to evaluate and develop programming, coordinate calendars, and continue personal spiritual growth. 13. Maintain up-to-date communication with church leadership on current activities and future vision for youth ministry at CHUMC. 14. Ensure compliance with Safe Gatherings and CHUMC Safety policies and practices for all youth activities, experiences, study opportunities. 15. Attend weekly staff meetings 16. Attend and participate in Sunday Worship. Expectations: 1. Maintain office hours within the established office hours while maintaining a flexible enough schedule to work on Sundays during services, and other dates as the ministry requires. (Office hours will be assigned by the Lead Pastor) 2. Keep, maintain, and submit a record of your time sheet. 3. Follow all policies and procedures of the Employee Handbook. 4. Perform other duties as assigned that pertain to the general role of Youth Director as need arises or assigned. 5. Keep and submit attendance records (to the Church Administrator) for: a. Sunday School classes (population per class) b. All other youth activities and events. 6. Keep and produce when requested a communication log of all communication to youth and parents of youth involved with CHUMC. 7. Be warm hearted, welcoming, and demonstrate loving kindness to all people. 8. Primary focus is to be on CHUMC Youth (6th – 12th grade); other gatherings designed for Young Adults (post 12th grade) should be separate from Youth Activities. 9. Only record hours for pay in which work was performed for CHUMC Youth, unless approved by the Lead Pastor.
