Background Investigation: All candidates and employees may be subject to a background investigation. Summary of Functions Supervises fellow lifeguards. They will be responsible for opening and closing of Aquatic area and procedures. Shift supervisors will also be responsible for testing pool water and inventory of 1st aid products. Essential Duties and Responsibilities PREVENTIVE LIFEGUARDING Make sure lifeguards are doing their job accurately, Work with guards to improve through training. Must work collectively to cover each others shifts (a shift supervisor must be on duty at all times). Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool with emphasis on the prevention of accidents. Maintain order and enforce pool rules. Provide and supervise the safe use of all equipment. ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES Record daily attendance. Uphold all Camas Center policies. All accident reports turned in to supervisor. Membership retention. Check in and out on time card. MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Hose and bucket deck each evening after closing. Check pool chemicals and record. Notify supervisor of unacceptable levels. Clean office each evening after closing. Equipment stored in proper place. Inform supervisor of any needed repairs. General cleaning and housekeeping daily EMERGENCY ACTION PLANS Follow the emergency action plan as described in the emergency procedure guide. Follow the chain of command in all emergencies. Inspect and keep pool area, first aid and life-saving equipment in readiness at all times. OTHER Dress code upheld. Punctuality: arrive 10 – 15 minutes after scheduled time. Camas Center code of conduct upheld. Attend all in-service training programs and staff meetings. To do related work as requested by supervisor. Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises 5-7 employees, responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education High school diploma, or general education degree (GED). Experience One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively after groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimal. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs. Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular good attendance record. Other Requirements Life Guard Certification CPR Certification for professional rescuer Hepatitis B vaccination required. First Aid and Bloodbourne Pathogens training. Ability to pass Lifeguarding skill requirements. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Program Volume: Lifeguards routinely has 31 to 100 participants under their supervision and periodically up to 200 participants. Constant, undivided attention must be demonstrated at all times. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
