Definition: The Private Swim and/or Dive Instructor provides personalized one-on-one or small group lessons, tailored to each student's needs and goals. This role focuses on improving swimming and diving techniques, building water safety awareness, and fostering confidence in the water. The instructor ensures a safe, motivating, and enjoyable experience, helping students of all levels achieve their full potential. Principal Duties: • Schedule individual or small group lessons with interested people, processed through the City of Longmont. • Maintain awareness of current pool use schedules, and plan lessons when appropriate. When necessary, share pool space with other City of Longmont programs and/or patrons. • Teach lessons in a progressive manner and routinely communicate student progress to parents. • Plan and prepare for scheduled lessons, catered to the desired outcomes of patrons. • Prepares, cares for, and safely stores equipment used for instruction. • Maintain an atmosphere of safety during all classes. • Adhere to City of Longmont philosophies, policies and procedures. • Observe, follow, and enforce established policies and procedures of the division. • Be courteous and tactful in personal interactions with customers and staff. • Knowledge of City of Longmont private lesson fee's, packages, and entry processes. • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes. Working Environment: Working conditions are performed either indoors or outdoors and involves exposure to hot and cold temperatures, high humidity, direct sun and/or moderate to loud background noise. Work requires frequent use of fingers and hands, walking and standing, hearing, speaking, problem solving, verbal and written communication and customer contact. Handling multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, custodial duties, slippery/uneven walking surfaces, working alone or working closely with others. Work may require up to four hours shifts in chemically treated water. Work occasionally involves: light/moderate lifting and carrying (1-49 lbs.), frequent bending, stooping and kneeling. Qualifications: Must be at least 15 years of age. Previous experience teaching or coaching swimming and/or diving. Experience in a private, one-on-one instruction setting is preferred. Ability to teach swimmers and divers of all ages and skill levels. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain techniques clearly and provide constructive feedback. Experience in fostering a positive, motivating environment for students is essential. Proven ability to manage and schedule lessons effectively, ensuring timely communication with clients regarding availability, rescheduling, and lesson planning. Comfortable with coordinating lesson times to accommodate clients' needs and managing adjustments in a flexible, professional manner. Desired Qualifications: Swim Instructor and/or dive instructor certification from a recognized organization (such as American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, YMCA-Swim Instructor, Starfish Aquatics, Scuba Schools International, or USA Swimming/Diving).
