Job Description Job Description Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club (HFAC) is looking for a dynamic, people-centered, business-driven Aquatics Manager (AM) to grow our group swim programs and member services. As a key profit driver and core member of HFAC’s leadership team, the AM works closely with the General Manager and club owners. Why HFAC? What You'll Do Grow and Lead a High-Performing Team: Hire, train, develop, and manage a top-tier group of swim instructors and lifeguards who deliver exceptional member experiences in both group lessons for children and adults. Own Aquatic Programming: Oversee the development, execution, and quality control of swim lessons, safety protocols, and other aquatic services. Deliver Results: Use daily, weekly, and monthly reporting to track performance, ensure profitability, and adjust strategies as needed to meet business goals. Support the Member Experience: Connect with members and prospective members to ensure they feel welcomed, safe, and supported in achieving their aquatic and wellness goals. Ensure Operational Excellence: Keep aquatic areas organized, safe, and visually excellent. Maintain proper inventory and equipment readiness. Be a Key Player: Serve as a cross-functional leader and manager-on-duty, working collaboratively with all departments to support daily operations and future planning. Who You Are A natural leader and team builder with strong communication and accountability skills. Passionate about swim instruction, water safety, and health promotion. A numbers-minded professional who can analyze trends, manage budgets, and drive performance. Tech-comfortable, with the ability to learn platforms for scheduling, reporting, and communication (experience with Excel, Google Workspace, or scheduling software is a plus). A creative problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Compensation: $40,000 - $60,000 yearly Responsibilities: Hire, onboard, train, and manage a high-performing team of swim instructors and lifeguards. Develop and grow aquatic programs (group and private swim lessons, clinics, lifeguard training) to maximize member engagement and revenue. Drive department revenue by optimizing lesson capacity, promoting services, and managing performance metrics. Schedule and supervise lifeguards and instructors , ensuring full coverage and consistent, high-quality service delivery. Maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal aquatics regulations. Actively serve as Manager-on-Duty (MOD) during evening and weekend shifts as part of the club’s leadership team – this is a high-priority responsibility . Provide top-tier customer service , supporting members directly and resolving escalated issues quickly and effectively. Track and analyze performance data to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual goals. Ensure aquatic facilities are safe, clean, organized, and well-stocked . Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Membership, Kids Club, Group Exercise) to support whole-club initiatives and promotions. Support community outreach efforts and represent HFAC in local aquatic and wellness partnerships. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; additional consideration for a Master’s degree. Minimum 2 years of experience in aquatic instruction, swim programming, or lifeguarding. Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing 5 employees in aquatics, fitness, recreation, or hospitality. Current lifeguard and CPR/AED certifications preferred—or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and lead under pressure. Proficiency with scheduling software, Microsoft Excel, and digital communication tools. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as part of the Manager-on-Duty rotation . Able to work on-site in Hillsboro, OR, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
