Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer

Position Overview A well-established consulting engineering firm with offices in New York and Connecticut is seeking an experienced Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer to join its New York City team. This is a full-time opportunity to work on a wide range of high-profile projects, including museums, academic institutions, performance centers, collaborative workspaces, and luxury residences. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge in plumbing and fire protection systems, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for innovative and sustainable design. Key Responsibilities Develop design standards and documentation for plumbing and fire protection systems, including drawings, specifications, hydraulic calculations, and code analysis. Conduct field surveys and support construction administration by reviewing system installations. Review architectural and engineering documents for code compliance and coordination. Research and interpret local and national codes, including NFPA standards. Design plumbing systems such as domestic water heating plants, backflow preventers, and medical gas systems. Design fire protection systems including fire pumps, sprinkler layouts, and hydraulic calculations. Participate in project meetings with architects, engineers, construction managers, and clients to coordinate system layouts and space planning. Qualifications 10-15 years of experience in plumbing and fire protection design within the building systems industry. Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 13. Proficiency in Autodesk Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent communication and coordination skills.
