The Role The Early Career Specialist is an instrumental member of the Academy team. The Early Career Specialist provides expert career planning guidance and support to Academy cohort members. In addition, the Early Career specialist helps Academy cohort members develop career plans, guides them in building a social network, and informs them about the labor market and related trends. Also, the Early Career Specialist researches and identifies companies to provide awareness via work-based learning, including job shadowing, site visits, and managing the career speaker series. The Career specialist’s approach to work should reflect the core values and habits of the Academy staff: tireless focus on excellence, determination despite obstacles, impeccable integrity, willingness to work hard, ability to learn from multiple sources, relentless focus on results, constant reflection and self-awareness, zest, social intelligence, and pertinacity. Duties and Responsibilities Deliver innovative, career-based learning curriculum to educate all Academy Group members on diverse career paths and key skills and dispositions for early career planning. Engage members in dynamic experiential learning opportunities that allow direct interactions with professionals from diverse industries. This includes site visits, job shadowing, and career speakers. Effectively prepare members for their internship search. Develop and execute a career preparedness timeline for members from grades 9 to 12. Crucial benchmarks for career preparedness should be reflected in this timeline and include career exploration, resume building, best practices for the job interview process., Collaborate with the director of internships to connect students with potential employers. Utilize Salesforce to build and manage a database related to early career placement (internships). Examine and document college cohort members’ career-related aspirations and uncertainties using our Salesforce database throughout the consultation process. Establish the expectation, framework, and exemplar of AG Resumes and support staff members as they engage their respective student cohorts in the resume development process. Establish and maintain successful relationships with colleagues to lead people toward a shared vision of supporting student career readiness. Develop an annual calendar of career speakers, workshops, and presentations on relevant career topics that align with the career program offerings and objectives across our cohorts. Collaborate with appropriate team members and external partners to facilitate and measure the effectiveness of these activities. Additional shared accountabilities/duties. Collaborate with the director of internship placement on solidifying summer internship opportunities. Organize job shadowing opportunities with strategic partner companies and in the top 5 “industries of choice” of Academy Group students. Coordinate with staff to help college cohort members make career choices based on their passions and proficiencies and in alignment with their sense of purpose. Facilitate field trips for Academy cohort members. Up to 10% travel for each fiscal year. The travel includes local and national college tours. Education and experience requirements of the ideal candidate: Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of 3 years of career counseling or coaching experience. Successful experience serving young people from resilient communities. Additionally, the Early Career Specialist will have a proven track record demonstrating the following capabilities: Understanding of current trends and best practices in career advising and development. Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-focus, and autonomous nature. Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the organization's mission. Ability to work under dynamic, evolving conditions. Location This position will be based in Los Angeles. The position is a hybrid role. Compensation The Academy Group offers a competitive salary and comprehensive medical, vision, dental, and 401k package. The position pay range is $91,000 - $116,000.00.
