Job Type: Full-timeSeasonal position, Non-exempt, 32 hours per week

Founded in 2014, Bicycle Transit Systems (BTS) is a woman-owned business with a mission to operate bike share systems that create connections in our communities and protect our planet. We operate and manage a portfolio of bike share systems across the United States, as well as a nation-wide customer service call center. We are currently looking for a dedicated Field Technician to join our team!

Boulder BCycle Field Technicians work outdoors to make sure that BCycle e-bikes are available for riders. The job primarily entails redistributing bikes between stations and swapping batteries on bikes, in addition to tasks from the list below. Field Technicians use BCycle fleet vehicles (vans, box trucks, cargo bikes), so a safe driving record is required. A team-oriented, collaborative attitude and flexibility for an evolving role are necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Swap batteries on BCycle electric bikes
  • Balance the BCycle system by redistributing bikes between stations
  • Use software tools (BCycle Admin, Teams, FlowPath, Qucit, etc.) to determine real-time BCycle system needs
  • Recover bikes that are left unattended away from stations
  • Interact with riders and members of the public (questions on the street)
  • Safely operate service vehicles and promptly communicate maintenance needs
  • Inspect bikes and stations to uphold safety, functional, and cosmetic standards
  • Maintain stations (light troubleshooting, replacing parts and batteries, cleaning)
  • Assist in the installation and removal of stations
  • Drop off or pick up materials and supplies, as needed
  • Attend events to present information on BCycle to the public (prepping e-bikes, setup, tabling, tear down)

Educational and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School diploma or GED 
  • Valid driver license and clean driving record that passes insurance requirements for the company
  • Experience working with a small team to accomplish larger goals
  • Orientation to solving problems collaboratively and providing excellent bike share service to our riders
  • Strong mobile app and computer aptitude, and command of various software/productivity tools
  • Comfort driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments
  • Ability to ride a large electric cargo bicycle in an urban environment desired
  • Ability to problem solve and remain calm under pressure.

Physical Requirements and Special Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Frequently bend, stoop, and twist throughout the day  
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift objects up to 65+ lbs. and carry objects of this weight for distances up to 150 feet.  
  • Requires the ability to perform work while standing for prolonged periods of time.    
  • Repetitive motion required of the wrists, hands, or fingers occasionally throughout the workday. 
  • Safely transport BCycle electric bike batteries using various containers (daily)
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with company and department policy
  • Required standing, repetitive lifting, twisting, and bending (daily)
  • Will require working and riding a bicycle outdoors in various temperatures including rain, cold and heat conditions.    
  • Comfortable driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.  
  • This is a full-time, seasonal position expected to work 32 hours per week (4 days per week, 8 hours per day). Some hours outside of this, including nights and weekends, may be required.
  • This role requires the ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand, understand the speech of another person, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away, stand or sit for several hours straight at a time.
