Job Description Job Description TEMPORARY LIFEGUARD DCW POSITION SUMMARY: The Temporary Lifeguard DCW is responsible for ensuring the safety of all swimmers and patrons at The Children’s Center of Hamden pool. This includes monitoring activities in the pool area, enforcing safety rules, responding to emergencies, and providing first aid when necessary. The Temporary Lifeguard DCW will be vigilant, responsible, and possess strong swimming skills. POSITION STATUS: NON-EXEMPT Accountable and responsible for the following results: Constantly monitor the pool area to ensure the safety of all swimmers. Enforce all pool rules and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries. Identify potential hazards and take proactive steps to prevent accidents. Respond promptly and effectively to all emergency situations, including water rescues and administering CPR or first aid as required. Ensure proper documentation of incidents and injuries. Inspect pool facilities and equipment regularly to ensure cleanliness and safety. Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel. Provide information and assistance to pool users as needed. In the event of inclement weather, the Lifeguard DCW will float to a program at the discretion of the On-Site Supervisor, if needed. Stay current with all certifications and training requirements. Successfully complete CCG (Crisis Consulting Group) training and perform physical restraints with clients when needed. Other duties as assigned. Maintains all required agency mandatory trainings. Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with young people, clients and families served at The Children's Center of Hamden. Adheres to The Children’s Center of Hamden’s Boundary Code of Ethics. Is aware of the Policy and Procedure Manuals and can access information as needed. Respecting the experiences of individuals who do not share your race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other relevant quality. Maintains care, welfare, safety, and security of the children by reporting conditions which are or could be considered safety hazards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Previous lifeguard experience, preferred. Strong swimming skills and physical fitness. Excellent observational and decision-making skills. Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS Current Lifeguard Certification from a recognized organization (e.g., American Red Cross, YMCA). CPR and First Aid & AED Certification, required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform the following essential job functions: Light lifting ( Moderate lifting (20 – 50 lbs.) Reaching Walking Hearing Heavy lifting (>50 lbs) Bending Climbing Talking Driving Repetitive Motion Push/Pulling Other, specify: Ability to swim continuously for 100 yards.
