Lifeguard - Seasonal

Job Description Job Description The City of Independence Parks & Recreation Department is committed to excellence in programming, facilities, and service while improving the quality of life within our community and looking for lifeguards is to ensure the safety of our residents and their guests first through preventative strategies and water safety education. It is essential that lifeguards also take action as the first responder to incidents and emergencies within our aquatic facilities. Days, Hours & Additional Employment Details: A lifeguard is a seasonal position from May 2025 through September 2025. Lifeguards are generally scheduled to work Sunday - Saturday between the hours of 5:30 AM and 9 PM up to 40 hours a week. There will be weeks periodically throughout the year where working evenings, weekends and holidays are required. Duties and Responsibilities: Recognize and respond quickly and effectively as the first responder Routinely engage with the public during active surveillance to enforce all aquatic facility rules Inspect the facility on a daily basis including testing the pool water every 4 hours and reporting any unsafe conditions promptly. Participate in all lifeguard in-service training sessions. Participate in unannounced emergency response scenarios Maintain a fitness level equivalent to American Red Cross lifeguard performance criteria Perform other duties as assigned Necessary Competencies : Self-motivated Strong Communication Skills Decision Making Skills Additional Requirements: Lifeguard certification or proficient swimmer able and willing to become lifeguard certified (Required) Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this seasonal job, the employee is regularly required to see, speak, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; ben; squat; and be able to lift up to 50 lbs when necessary. Employee must be capable of working in both an indoor and outdoor environment under standard Ohio weather conditions.
