Job Description Job Description Description: The SJCC is seeking a passionate, energetic part-time Swim Coach who will be responsible for coaching swim team practices; creating swim workouts aimed at building strong, confident swimmers; monitoring swimmer safety and behavior; and organizing and coaching internal swim meets as the team progresses. We are seeking a coach available to work nights and weekends. We are also currently offering a full-time Swim Coach/Lifeguard/Swim Instructor position; please see our separate posting if you are seeking a full-time role. This posting is for our part-time role. At this time, we are particularly seeking Swim Coaches available for the following shifts: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00 PM - 5:45 PM Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide a safe and quality environment to train and motivate young athletes in the sport of swimming; instruct swim team participants on swimming stroke techniques and assist with skill improvement Plan and supervise daily workouts Caution participants regarding safe vs. unsafe behaviors; enforce all safety protocols Complete accident reports thoroughly if accidents occur and follow protocol outlined in Staff Manual Substitute for coworkers as needed Perform work on weekdays, weekends and evenings as needed to meet scheduling needs Support the emotional and social wellbeing of swim students through positive behavior management and supportive interactions Oversee the care and operation of equipment and supplies, and address maintenance issues Participant inclusion: Ensure all participants are included; adapt activities to meet their needs and abilities Track team members' success and results, and take attendance Respond to calls, questions, concerns, and feedback from patrons Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC Attend required staff training and meetings Perform other duties as assigned Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Experience: Swimming experience. Coaching/teaching experience. Experience working with children. Training and Certifications: Current CPR/AED Certification (Adult and Pediatric), or willing to complete course by required deadline(s). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to teach and coach the correct swimming technique of the four competitive swim strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly). Ability to teach safety in and around the water. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations. Knowledge of relevant safety practices. Ability to coach and empower swim students. Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with colleagues and SJCC guests. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting. Ability to exercise good judgment. Physical Demands: To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, walk, and stand. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to lift, push, and/or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Environmental Conditions: The work is frequently performed around a pool facility, and in a locker room with a moderate noise level. Surfaces are frequently slippery and wet. Please note available benefits differ between part-time, full-time, and seasonal positions as outlined. This position is part-time, but we are currently offering a full-time version of this role with additional Aquatics duties. Washington State Pay Range: $20.00/hour - $28.00/hour Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including but not limited to, skills, relevant experience, and specific work location.
