What We Do: Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer Lifecraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 1,000 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 20,000 youth ages 4-18 annually in and from 110 Title I schools across LA County! Role Overview: The Academic Manager works closely with the Director of Education to oversee the development and implementation of the academic program and provide direct academic and classroom management support to field and office staff in areas such as. Were we going to add specific areas here? The Academic Manager ensures that field staff have access to quality materials, high-interest activities, and adhere to program objectives. The Academic Manager ensures that projects are being prioritized and completed by established target dates and meet the needs of students and partners across various program locations. This is a hybrid work position. The Academics Manager will be expected to frequently work in the office, in the field at program locations, and has the flexibility to work from home when the schedule permits. Responsibilities: · Under the guidance of the Director of Academics, evaluate curriculum, instruction, and learning environments to ensure quality academic content and support, accessibility and success for all students. · Curate, adapt and distribute academic materials that meet diverse student needs and align with partner goals · Ensure programs are structured to support best practices in classroom management and instruction · Highlight models of high-quality programming and best practices to elevate programs across the region and agency · Organize and coordinate elements of academic intervention including recommendations and communication with school and WR leadership. · Oversee the development of intersessional academic programming, including scheduling, content, instruction, and differentiation for Winter, Spring, and Summer programs. · Track and report student academic performance, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting materials and instructional strategies as needed. · Develop rubrics and other measures for high-quality after-school academic practices. · Assist in data collection and reporting for stakeholders, including parents, funders, and school partners. · Provide the Director of Academics with updates and recommendations based on site visits, office hours meetings, and interactions with program staff and administrators · Organize and provide training and professional development opportunities for staff, ensuring instructors are equipped with the latest strategies, resources, and tools. · Coordinate with Learning & Development (L&D) on training and professional development to ensure streamlining and alignment · Facilitate collaboration between Club Leaders, Site Coordinators, Camp Counselors, and Camp Coordinators to develop and implement academic content and support. · Develop, coordinate, integrate and refine academic elements in agency-wide Woodcraft Rangers event such as Scholar Bowl and WOW · Meet regularly with the Outdoor Education Team to provide input, guidance, and materials for camp activities · Support EcoWarriors initiatives and integrate environmental education into programming. · Ensure collaborative approaches with school administration, teachers, program staff, vendors and community organizations to support student success. · Schedule office hours and site visits as requested by supervisors. · Comply with all applicable safety requirements and emergency protocols, including maintaining up-to-date training and certifications. · Participate in staff development training as required (approximately 30 hours across multiple weekends/intersessional days) · Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: · 3-5 years of experience working in a school environment within diverse communities required. · Bachelors Degree required · K-12 Teaching Credential Preferred (single or multiple subject) · High School Diploma or equivalent · FBI & DOJ Livescan clearance · TB Test clearance · First Aid & CPR certification (provided by WR) · Ability to travel to multiple sites. · Ability to use smart phone for work related business (WR provides Wi-Fi/cell stipend) · Woodcraft Rangers will require proof of vaccination for ALL employees providing any in-person work with staff or clients.
