Job Description Job Description Children’s Minister Work Schedule: Part-Time Position Overview The Children’s Minister will develop and oversee the Christian Education Program for Children, which includes the weekly Wednesday Night Kid’s 4 Christ program, as well as weekly Sunday School and Kid’s Worship programs. There are also additional special programming requirements, such as Vacation Bible School and seasonal events (Easter events, Christmas programs, etc). The Children’s Minister shall seek to foster a strong education program through building relationships with the Next Generation Serving Team (aka: volunteers), students, parents and church leaders that strengthen the students’ growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and their commitment to being part of the local church. Principal Children’s Ministry Responsibilities • Help every child know the love of Christ through participation in the Children’s ministry of Chickasaw Methodist Church (CMC). • Instruct and train children to understand and implement the Bible into their lives. ● Develop children in their Christian spiritual and social development. Develop a Children’s Ministry strategic plan that supports the mission and vision of CMC. This is done primarily through: ● Development, coordination, promotion, and implementation of a dynamic children’s programs in the following main areas: 1. Children’s involvement in Worship services and/or Kid’s Worship (including acolytes and maintaining worship bags for use in worship services) 2. Children’s Sunday School for ages K – 5th or 6th Grade 3. Children’s program for Wednesday night K – 5th or 6th Grade. 4. Seasonal events such as Vacation Bible School, Easter Events, Christmas Programs, Blessing of the Backpacks, children’s involvement in church-wide events, etc. 5. Special services with the congregation that occur 3-4 times per year ● Research and order appropriate curriculum needed to support all children’s programs. ● Recruit and train required Serve Team helpers (volunteers) to meet education program requirements of the church (at least 2 non-related adults with each group of children), and assist in the classroom as time permits. Accounts for substitutes as necessary. ● Work with Administrative personnel of the church to ensure compliance with Ministry Safe requirements, including background checks for all volunteers who serve with the Children’s Ministry. ● Maintain communication with all Serve Team Helpers and be available to address parent or teacher questions, concerns, and suggestions. ● Coordinate with Music Director to incorporate music into Children’s program, including 5th Sunday inter-generational worship services. ● Intentionally work with social media and community events to reach out with invitations to children’s programs and special events. ● Communicate Children’s Ministry praises and concerns frequently with the pastor, Leadership Team, and the congregation. Be an advocate for Children within all areas of CMC. ● Provide input for the development of the budget for the Children’s Ministry. ● Work with Administrative personnel to maintain updated content on the church website and/or social media with children’sprogramming and events. Assist with Nursery and preschool programs and participation. • Ensure details for special events and programs are organized and implemented – including fundraising, fellowship events, and summer camp experiences. Personal Qualifications • Solid understanding of the foundations of the Christian faith and a strong desire to nurture children in the Christian Faith. • Spiritual Maturity • Friendly and enthusiastic • Proven ability to work flexibly with children, parents, volunteers, and other team members. • Good organization, communication, teaching, administration, and computers skills. • An understanding of child development • Generates new ideas and programs and values team concepts of ministry. • Live a Christian Life that is consistent with the Bible so that the children can follow the example of how the person lives Lines of Communication • The Children’s Minister is accountable to the congregation through the Church Vision and Leadership Team and the Lead Pastor. • The Children’s Minister will be assigned a liaison member (or members) from the Vision and Leadership Team. Concerns and Annual evaluations will be communicated by the Liaison Member, with collaboration and input from the Lead Pastor. • The Children’s Minister will work closely with the Lead Pastor. Attendance at monthly team meetings is expected. Monthly submission of Newsletter article is required. • Unexpected absences should be communicated as soon as possible to the Lead Pastor. Job Skills Required • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Organizational skills • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Educational & Professional Requirements • High School Diploma and at least 2 years of experience in children’s education role, preferably in a church. This includes weekly Wednesday night and Sunday morning programs. There are also additional special programming requirements, such Summer Camp, Fundraising, and Community Service opportunities. The Youth Minister shall seek to foster a strong education program through building relationships with the Next Generation Serving Team (aka: volunteers), students, parents and church leaders that strengthen the students’ growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and their commitment to being part of the local church.
