Job Description Job Description Established in 1926, Family Service League is a social services agency transforming lives and communities through mental health, addiction, housing, and essential human services with more than 60 social service programs in over 20 locations. $3,000 Sign-On Bonus SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 9am-5pm 35hrs per week $3,000 Sign-On Bonus SUMMARY: Family Service League is seeking a full-time Educational Coordinator to lead educational, recreational, and enrichment programs for children and family members residing in emergency housing. The Coordinator assists families in arranging and maintaining school transportation for school-aged children in residence. Responsibilities include working collaboratively with educational and recreational program staff, case management, the Department of Social Services, school districts and school transportation offices. The Coordinator is part of an inter-disciplinary team, and will offer guidance and support to families, and work to foster a positive, strength-based environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Coordinator will provide direct interaction and support to children and families residing in emergency housing to build upon strengths and resources. Practice excellent supervision and monitoring skills pertaining to the safety of children. Plan and implement programs and events that meet the developmental, intellectual, physical, social-emotional, and recreational needs of children of all ages. The Coordinator will supervise and coordinate Homework Help Club. Coordinate and contribute to a monthly department activities calendar that ensures a balance of programs for children of all ages, gender, and cultural backgrounds. Develop family-centered field trips designed for enhancing parent/child participation, while reinforcing appropriate parenting and supervision skills. Keep parents/guardians informed of program expectations, program activities, and child progress. The Coordinator will assume bus duties to ensure all children returning from school or camp are safely supervised. Coordinate Summer Camp, UPK and Kindergarten eligible school enrollment with parents, camp and school district registration offices. Act as liaison with families, school districts, transportation services and DSS to facilitate school enrollment. Deliver daily documentation to each Case Manager, related to school attendance. Maintain master list of all students and their daily attendance records. Oversee and coordinate Stony Brook’s Pediatric Mobile Dental Clinic onsite visits. The Coordinator will oversee designated departmental major events. Assist in training and mentoring program assistants and volunteers for program assistance. Work to maintain and support existing partnerships with outside agencies, community leaders, members of the community, and volunteers. Prepare room for activities and programs and clean up program materials. Ensure play areas and activity centers are cleaned, well maintained and safe at all times. Maintain and instruct children in keeping good hygiene. Change the diapers of infants and toddlers. Adhere to identified schedules and routines. Maintain meticulous record keeping and maintain current, accurate, and confidential client records. The Coordinator will work closely with program staff to implement and maintain program performance standards. Set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients; observe client confidentiality and HIPPA protocols. Provide crisis intervention. Understand and be able to implement emergency procedures. Responsibly ensure agency policies and procedures are adhered to. Participate in and attend staff meetings and trainings, as required. All other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalency required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of 1 years’ experience in Human Services or related field required. Must have knowledge of homeless population and DSS policies and regulations. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, required. Excellent organizational and time management skills required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Must be able to work independently and part of a multi-disciplinary team. Spanish language fluency preferred. Valid, clean New York State Driver’s License required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to go up and down stairs.
