Job Description
Job Description Job Description Position Overview: Do you believe that the best lessons are learned through passion and play? We're looking for a dynamic Chess Coach to ignite a love for the game and guide students through the thrilling world of strategy, critical thinking, and sportsmanship. This isn't just about teaching moves; it's about mentoring young minds and fostering a vibrant, inclusive community of learners in our After School Enrichment Program. You are the heart of our program. If you are someone who lights up when a student has a "Eureka!" moment, we want you on our team. A Note on Experience: While we provide full curricula for most subjects, for this role, we need a true chess enthusiast! You should know how to play and be excited about sharing your knowledge. (A background in Dungeons & Dragons or Pokemon is a huge plus, too!) What You'll Do: Inspire Young Minds: Lead engaging chess sessions that go beyond the board, teaching strategy, patience, and the art of gracious winning (and learning from losing!). Create a Vibrant Community: Foster a welcoming and fun environment where students of all skill levels feel encouraged to participate, ask questions, and challenge themselves. Be a Mentor: Use your passion for the game to actively engage students, celebrate their progress, and help them develop confidence both on and off the board. Collaborate & Connect: Work as a team with site staff and communicate with parents to share the exciting progress their children are making. Who You Are (Our Ideal Candidate): You have a genuine enthusiasm for working with kids and the patience to help them grow. You're a chess player! You know the game and are excited to teach it (formal competitive experience is not required—passion is key!). You are a creative problem-solver who can make learning interactive and fun for all ages. You're reliable, professional, and excited to be a positive role model. You might have experience as a camp counselor, tutor, teacher, or mentor—anywhere you've honed your skills in guiding young people. Requirements: Must have reliable transportation to commute to our partner school campuses. Must comply with all school and company safety protocols. Availability to teach weekday afternoons (specific schedules vary by location). Must pass a comprehensive background check. Nice-to-Haves (But Not Required): Experience in childcare or education (1 year preferred). First Aid/CPR Certification. What We Offer: A Flexible Schedule that works around your life. The rewarding experience of sharing your passion and directly impacting students' lives. A supportive team environment. Ready to Make Your Move? If you’re ready to help the next generation discover the power of a well-played game, apply today! Please submit your resume and tell us about your experience with chess—and any other extracurricular passions—in your cover letter.
