Located in Charleston, South Carolina, we provide individualized, comprehensive, year-round programming for children with disabilities through our charter school, summer camp, therapy services, and early intervention services. Our collaborative model places the child at the center of care and surrounds them with a multidisciplinary team of specialized providers, ensuring that all children’s needs are addressed with compassion and expertise. By consolidating their care network, we provide a one-stop destination with the tools necessary for children with disabilities and their families to thrive. Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical leadership role in advancing the mission of Pattison’s Academy by ensuring the delivery of high-quality, individualized health services to students. Reporting to the Chief Programming Officer, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating health care for students attending our charter school and summer camp programs. This position will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, oversee health support personnel, and liaise with families and external healthcare providers to promote the well-being of students and coordinate care. The RN will receive ongoing collaboration and oversight from Pattison’s Nurse Practitioner and MUSC partners in accordance with state nursing regulations. Qualifications: Current South Carolina RN License CPR/BLS certifications Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, preferably with children with disabilities Experience in pediatric, school, or community nursing settings preferred Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and families Responsibilities: The Registered Nurse’s duties, though not exhaustive, comprise the following: Assess students’ health status and develop or update individualized health care plans. Administer prescribed medications and perform medical procedures (e.g., tube feedings, catheterizations, injections, suctioning, changing dressings, breathing treatments, etc.). Oversee daily health-related services and ensure accurate documentation for all treatments and interventions. Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and overall student wellness; respond to and triage medical situations. Serve as the lead point of contact for medical issues during the school day or program hours. Supervise and support other health aides; provide training and guidance as needed. Communicates relevant health-related information to the health team and senior leadership in a timely and accurate manner. Coordinate with families, physicians, and care providers regarding health plans and updates. Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date health records for all students. Ensure compliance with all Pattison’s Academy policies and applicable health and safety regulations. Implement emergency response protocols and ensure staff readiness in case of medical crises. Participate in IEP meetings and provide health-related input and documentation as required. Assist in preparing and submitting reports for billing and regulatory compliance. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to the pace and diverse needs of students. Lift up to 40 pounds and perform duties requiring physical activity related to student care. Perform other related duties as assigned.
