It will focus on fantasy, sci-fi and general fiction publishing. Hodder & Stoughton publishes household names and undiscovered gems, books that sweep you away or leave you looking at the world with new eyes. They are the publishers of many brand name fiction writers, including John Grisham, Stephen King, Sophie Hannah, Sara Cox, David Nicholls, Callie Hart, Kerri Maniscalco, David Mitchell and Lucy Score. What you'll be doing You will be responsible for managing a list of titles across the Hodderscape and Fiction lists, including mono, offset and sub box titles. You will be responsible for all project editorial tasks on these titles, including: adhering to schedules; commissioning freelancers; handling copyedits, proofreads and any legal or sensitivity reads needed; collating proof corrections; clearing any permissions needed; checking cover copy and final layouts; and signing off your allocated titles for press on time and to a high editorial standard. You will ensure that your titles run to schedule and on budget, and that all freelance work is commissioned and carried out to a high standard. You will have a comprehensive overview of your list and keep all departments and stakeholders up to date on the status of your titles. This is a 12 month FTC, non-commissioning role. Who we are looking for We are looking for experienced candidates with a proven track record of trade project editing. Applicants must have meticulous copyediting and proofreading skills, excellent communication and organisational skills and be keen to champion best practice to deliver excellence. You should be proactive, a multitasker and able to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating confidence dealing with colleagues both internally and externally. The ideal candidate should have: experience project managing mono books - an understanding of the colour-book process is preferable but not essential excellent organisational and project management skills the ability to prioritise a high workload, manage conflicting deadlines and keep a cool head under pressure a meticulous eye for detail, preferably trained in proofreading and copyediting a good eye for layout and design, and the ability to think creatively a good communicator - diplomatic and confident in chasing other departments, freelancers and authors as necessary enthusiasm and a 'can-do' attitude an in-depth knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office; knowledge of Biblio would be an advantage understanding of copyright issues.
