The counselor is the life-blood of camp. Our caregivers have the greatest impact on working with campers. They receive paid training during staff orientation and are supported by camp leadership (division heads, program director, social skills director and the camp director) as they help exceptional young men enjoy a tremendous camp experience while learning key social skills. In addition to scheduled evenings off, each Direct Support Professional has a 36 hour day off each week. Caregivers also go with their campers on weekly adventures out of camp, ranging from Hershey Park Amusement Park to the Baltimore Inner Harbor.

Our staff live in dorms (private or shared with one other staff member) and work with the age group of young men to whom they have been assigned. Camp-wide, the staffing ratio is 2 adults for every 5 youth and this allows for a great deal of support and reinforcement at all levels. Specific duties include:
· Supervision and support of kids as they move through self-chosen daily activities
· Engaging with kids in fun and dynamic ways during division time in air-conditioned spaces and trips out of camp
· Assisting with activities of daily life including reminders for cleaning, personal hygiene and bathroom routines.

Please Note: Our campers do not require help with showering and toileting as they have a much higher ability level, but will sometimes forget things like brushing teeth and washing their hair and need gentle reminders. All staff enjoy the flexibility of copious indoor space for program areas. From air-conditioned lounges with televisions, to incredible gyms, fitness center, heated indoor pool and a myriad of other facilities, including an art studio featuring skylights and a kiln, this camp experience provides a synergistic blend of traditional camp elements (from fishing to swimming to overnight trips with campfires and marshmallows), to innovative offerings such as the new STEM academy. Successful applicants have prior experience working with youth (formally or informally, are flexible, dynamic individuals who excel in a team environment).

Job Requirements

Candidates must have kid experience, experience with our population is preferred, ability to live on site in PA for the duration of our summer experience.

Preferred qualifications include prior camp or residential kid experience. Direct Support experience translates well into success in our program.
